If you still want to tackle your project alone, here is what you can expect

Cost of Paint

If you plan on painting your home, we recommend using higher quality paint,  it looks better and lasts longer and saves you money in the long run.

How much paint should I buy? We recommend adding an extra 20 percent of paint to your total square footage to be safe. It is always good to have extra for touch ups and repairs.

It typically takes two coats to cover the exterior of your home, a gallon of paint can cover around 350-400 square feet. The total cost of paint for your project is going to range from $350 to $850.

Cost of Supplies

Unfortunately it takes more than just a paintbrush. It also involves supplies like ladders, rollers, extension poles, safety gear, painters tape, and primer. You also have to take into consideration that you have to prep your home - cleaning and patching holes, scraping paint, or repairing the siding. If you do not have all of these tools laying around, expect to spend an extra $200 - $500.

When should you paint your home?

The best time to paint your home is during the autumn season. The weather is fresh and crisp, meaning your paint will dry faster and there is less likelihood of rain. To finish your exterior painting job on your own, it can take anywhere from one, to 3 weeks. Another reason why hiring a painter is the easiest way to go. Hire a professional to do the job so the only thing you have to worry about is picking the right color.
